Personal Branding Photoshoot: Dr. Melisa Arias-Valenzuela
My client, Dr. Melisa Arias-Valenzuela, came to me wanting branding photos that felt bright, airy, and welcoming. As a clinical psychologist and the founder of Uprise Psychology & Wellness here in Ottawa, Dr. Mel is dedicated to helping adults and teens navigate challenges like eating disorders and perinatal mental health. And I feel pretty confident that we NAILED IT!
But how did we get from that initial concept to the final deliverable? I’m so glad you asked!
Defining the Vision
First, Dr. Mel got really clear on her vision by sourcing images that resonated with what she wanted. Having a clear vision helped guide our entire process and ensured we captured her commitment to mental wellness and personal connection. She chose Skye Studio's Daybreak, a crisp, white & beautifully-designed studio in Ottawa as the perfect backdrop for our shoot.
Once we had the vision in place, we worked through everything necessary to make it a reality. This included:
Props that incorporated her brand colors: We used stationery, books, snacks, and a mug to create a cohesive look that represented her practice.
Poses that conveyed a casual, friendly, yet professional vibe: This helped to authentically capture Dr. Mel’s personality and approachability.
A super bright and airy studio: The right setting was key to achieving that fresh feel, reflecting the supportive environment she fosters at Uprise Psychology & Wellness.
Outfits in warm whites, spring-like colors, and natural fabrics: These choices complemented the overall aesthetic beautifully, aligning with her calming and welcoming presence.

What I'm Currently Gushing Over
Here are a few elements I’m particularly excited about:
The white suit on a white studio backdrop creates a stunningly clean look.
Glimpses of florals and foliage pop against the clean background, adding a touch of warmth and life.
The warm and welcoming vibe conveyed through the poses that we chose.
I love that by implementing these photos in her marketing, Dr. Mel is already seeing the results she was hoping for in connecting with clients seeking support.
