Why I’m Stepping Back from Instagram (and What I’m Focusing on Instead)

Lately, I’ve felt like Instagram has been taking up way too much of my time—and honestly, not giving much back. If you’re a business owner, you might relate: hours spent creating posts, trying to keep up with trends, and still feeling like you’re literally shouting into the void.

It’s exhausting.

So, I’ve decided to shift my focus. Instead of putting all my energy into Instagram, I’m leaning into something that feels more intentional: blogs and Pinterest. They’re tools that work harder for me (and my clients), and today I’m breaking down why I think they might work for you, too.

Instagram’s Short Shelf Life

Let’s be serious: Instagram is amazing for quick connections, dopamine hits, and showing off your personality, but posts don’t last long. After a day or two, that reel you poured hours into gets buried.

That’s not to say I’m ditching Instagram—it’s still a great space for staying connected with you and sharing highlights of my work. But I’ve realized that relying on it as my main strategy wasn’t giving me the long-term value I wanted.

Why Blogs? They’re a Confidence-Building Goldmine

Blogs let me tell the full story, not just the highlights. For example, when I work with clients, there’s so much that goes into creating the final gallery—choosing wardrobe, building a shot list, and finding ways to capture their unique vibe.

A blog is where I can break all of that down, sharing not just the photos but the thought process behind them. It’s also a place where I can hype you up, share tips to make you feel more prepared, and remind you why you deserve photos that make you feel AMAZING.

Plus, blogs stick around. If someone searches “how to prepare for a branding shoot” and lands on my blog, that one post could inspire them to book their own session—even months after I’ve published it.

Why Pinterest? It’s Like a Visual Search Engine

Pinterest is a game-changer. It’s not just another social media platform; it’s where people go when they’re actively looking for inspiration and solutions.

For me, Pinterest is a way to show my work and drive traffic back to my website. If someone clicks on a pin like “How Brand Photos Can Help You Stand Out Online” (with one of my photos as the visual), they’re directed to my blog, where they can dive deeper and start dreaming about their own shoot.

Unlike Instagram, Pinterest keeps working for you long after you’ve hit “publish.” Pins can show up in searches months (or even years!) later. It’s marketing that feels timeless, not trendy.

What This Means for Your Business

If you’re feeling burnt out by social media, let me just say—you’re not alone. But you don’t have to put all your eggs in the Instagram basket.

By focusing on blogs and Pinterest, you can:

  • Build trust and credibility: Sharing your expertise in a blog makes your audience feel like they know you before they even meet you.

  • Save time: Repurpose your blogs into Instagram posts, email newsletters, or Pinterest pins. One piece of content can go so far.

  • Reach a broader audience: SEO and Pinterest help you connect with people who are actively searching for what you offer.

Let’s Make Magic Beyond Instagram

Shifting my focus to blogs and Pinterest has given me more clarity—and more energy to show up for you in ways that actually feel meaningful.

If you’ve been feeling stuck, I get it. But this is your reminder: You don’t have to do it all. Choose what works for you and your business, and lean into the platforms that make you feel confident, connected, and seen.

And if you’re ready for brand photos that take your online presence to the next level, I’d love to help. You deserve photos that show off your unique vibe, celebrate your hard work, and make you say, “YES, that’s me!”

Let’s make it happen.
